"Candlelight Magic"
Artist: Donald Zolan
Genre: All Genres
Size of Original: 24" by 24"
A little girl named Sarah stands close to a candle carousel here. There's much for her to see and hear and wonder about. How do the candles make the little brass angels turn? Where does the tinkling come from? Why are the flames the size they are and not getting any bigger? Why do the candles get smaller the longer they burn? Zolan makes exquisite use of the candlelight. It's lighting Sarah's face and hair, putting a sparkle in her eye, brightening the lacy top of her nightgown and the pleats and buttons below, outlining her fingers and putting a highlight on each fingernail. This is another Zolan Christmas scene, and Zolan says, "Children are wide-eyed with wonder at Christmas and usually find each day feels like a week because it takes so long for Christmas to finally arrive. I painted little Sarah just a few inches away from her candle carousel to focus all the excitement, color and magic of Christmas on one child."
